This past weekend, our Designated Broker, Heather Werner, was honored to participate with the SEVRAR Leadership Program, to complete a community service project with the House of Refuge. Heather’s group raised over $16,000 to not only beautify the HOR campus in Mesa, but to also provide funds to support one family for a year, through the House of Refuge program.
House of Refuge is a faith-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) that provides supportive services and transitional housing to homeless families. House of Refuge is a work program with case management services, employment support and transitional housing. Experienced staff are here to assist every participant in the successful transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
Their vision at House of Refuge, is taking the broken human spirit and restoring it body, mind and soul. They feel that by educating and assisting the entire person we not only strengthen the individual, but the family as well.
The SEVRAR Leadership Program focused on freshening up the playground area to sand, paint and install borders around the play equipment, adding TONS of new woodchips to the play areas, donating and planting 20 new shade & citrus trees to the community, donating and installing four new BBQ grills and two new picnic tables, and repairing and painting three existing park benches. They also purchased 100 tons of granite to be placed throughout the community as needed.
Heather said, “It is such a privilege to work alongside House of Refuge. They offer a hand-up to the community, not a hand-out. House of Refuge has a 95% success rate in helping families become self-sufficient, and I would love to see more people get involved with this great charity.”
