Ready to sell your home? If so, you want to make sure you understand the importance of curb appeal. What do we mean? Well, when driving down any given street, have you noticed that some houses simply stand out above the rest? Even in a neighborhood of similar-looking tract homes, there are just some that have extra special touches that help them to get noticed.
So, what can you do to enhance curb appeal when you’re going to sell your home? Plenty! But, you don’t have to spend a fortune to give your home an appealing look. Here are some tips to consider:
- Spruce up your landscaping. If you have a lawn, make sure it is watered, maintained, and as green as can be. A dry, brown lawn on the outside can give the impression that you don’t take care of your home on the inside. Also, have your bushes and trees neatly trimmed and keep on top of weed management.
- Add a pop of color. This is as easy as adding some decorative pots filled with greenery or some bright and cheery flowers. Of course, these will have to be maintained, as well. You can also add a garden flag or other lawn décor. Just make sure you don’t overdo it. Go for tasteful, not tacky.
- Evaluate your garage door. For many homes in our area, the garage is one of the main focal points of a home’s façade. If your garage door is old and has peeling paint, you will want to address these issues. This can include adding some paint or even replacing the garage door entirely. If you do decide to replace, select a garage door with some interesting features. Maybe one with windows or even a barn door look. But, be sure to check with your HOA to make sure that whatever you choose is approved.
There are certainly other things you can do to add to your home’s curb appeal when you are ready to sell your home. You can go to such extremes as repainting your whole house, adding pavers on your driveway, or re-doing your entire front yard with brand-new trees and grass. It’s completely up to you how far you want to go. But, I always advise my clients to make sure that the amount of money they put into their home can be recouped when it’s time to sell.
If you are seriously considering that its is time to sell your home, I would love to help you determine ways that you can give your place that special curb appeal that gets homes noticed.
